The use of hot air balloons in Luxor began in the last quarter of the 20th century when companies offering the facility for aerial trips began offering the same. This was an activity that received a lot of attention because it was quite unique to take this kind of perspective to watch grand temples and monuments. These rides over the years have indeed turned out to be indispensable, where one flies majestically at the break of dawn that reveals such beautiful sight and a new way of looking at the past of the city.

Due to the nature of such means of transport, the better time to take a hot air balloon in Luxor is in early morning before dawn. This mean the time of flight in stable weather conditions and relatively low flow with wind and light conditions that are perfect for taking photos. The recommended period for these voyages is between October and April, however weather conditions are generally relatively warm and there is little or no precipitation.

The best dressing code would be to wear many layers of clothes, long trousers and non-slip shoes since those with good grip should be chosen. One should never forget a hat and/or sunglasses; and especially in chilly weather one should not forget a light jacket or wind breaker. Any dress that could hamper the equipment including, loose-fitting clothes must be discouraged.

Yes. The weather at sunrise is the best time to fly in a balloon. All wind comes from heat exchanges or pressure. In the morning time close to sunrise, the wind direction is very consistent and calm. People that are older or that are bringing young kids along will want to select a sunrise balloon ride for that reason.

You’ll be glad to know that most hot air balloon pilots are weather dorks. Since balloon pilots only use the wind for steering, it’s not possible to fly if the winds are too fast or going in a poor direction. Aeronauts (balloon pilots) also don’t fly in marginal or poor weather conditions. If your balloon ride is canceled for the weather, you’ll have the opportunity to reschedule or receive a refund.
